East Kent University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been a valued Altera Digital Health client since 2013, using Sunrise EPR to help drive next-level patient care. The trust is one of the largest in the region, with five hospitals and several community clinics serving a population of approximately 700,000 people in east Kent. In addition, it offers specialised services such as renal services in Medway and Maidstone, as well as a cardiac service for all of Kent, based at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

As East Kent prepared for the go-live of its electronic prescribing and medication administration system (ePMA), their team extended their partnership with Altera by implementing the Altera Business Continuity Solution, recognising the potential impact of any IT downtime on the trust. This solution is now providing the trust’s healthcare teams with read-only access to critical patient data during any scheduled or unscheduled downtime of the Sunrise EPR system.
